The Asia Pacific region continues to position itself as a dynamic and vibrant market where rapid economic and demographic growth will sustain demand for oil, and gas drilling and exploration in Asia in the foreseeable future.
However, the industry needs future-ready leaders to drive the transformation to ensure the industry is equipped with relevant competencies and capabilities in order to overcome current and future industry challenges.
Collaborative efforts and partnerships; continuous innovation and investment with regard to attracting and retaining a competent and skilled workforce; and also the implementation of new technologies and practices that work will all be crucial in addressing those evolving challenges with achieving cost and operational efficiencies, sustainability and meeting stakeholder expectations.
The IADC Drilling HSE&T Asia Pacific 2020 Conference & Exhibition, which will be held on 11-12 February 2020 in Bangkok, will explore the critical challenges that drilling professionals face in this environment. In the face of prolonged low oil prices, how can companies high-grade their assets, right-size their organizations and equip their employees with the right competencies, all while staying on the cutting edge of the digital oilfield evolution?
Call for Abstracts
The International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) is pleased to issue a call for abstracts for presentations at the upcoming IADC Drilling HSE&T Asia Pacific 2020 Conference & Exhibition in Bangkok. Key topic areas are outlined below. Authors are encouraged to come equipped with not just the how’s and why’s but also with compelling results to share.
Performance Optimization: Focus is shifting from reducing prices of goods and services to generating value by improving efficiency through technology, better work processes and changing standards. Collaboration – between operator and drilling contractor, between operator and service company, and among contractors themselves – has also become increasingly critical. Companies are invited to share experiences where improvements in technology, processes, standards and collaboration have helped to optimize their operations and performance.
Safety and Human Factors: Downturns challenge the morale and focus of our workforce, so organizations must work harder to help their employees understand that safety expectations do not change with fluctuations in the oil price. How can we take the opportunity of the downturn to high-grade the workforce? Share your innovations in safety technology; how to build company cultures to sustain incident-free operations; behavior-based safety; safety leadership; management of change; fitness for duty; and how to apply human factors to influence HSE results. Process safety-related topics are also of interest, including procedural compliance and self-verification; the use of leading and lagging indicators; hazard assessment and risk management; and training and awareness.
Industry 4.0: Data is more than a buzz word, and the drilling industry is increasingly learning to embrace data as the key element in pushing the next level of performance gains. A significant amount of data is already being collected, but how can the industry make such data actionable? Presentations are invited that share the state-of-the-art in data science, on cybersecurity, on innovations in applying data so that people on the rig can make better data-driven decisions, and on data standards and issues around interoperability.
Rig Equipment and Innovations: A significant number of drilling rigs around the world are stacked – how can drilling contractors ensure the proper maintenance of these units during the stacking period so that they can be efficiently brought back to work once the market recovers? For the rigs that continue to work, what can drilling contractors, operators and equipment providers do to reduce nonproductive time, particularly in the critical path? Presentations on mechanization and automation innovations, as well as equipment maintenance, are also welcome.
Workforce Development and Training: The industry has learned from past experience that it must continue to invest in talent recruitment and development despite economic challenges. This is especially critical considering the rapid evolution of technology and the growing use of data to manage and optimize drilling operations. How can we skill the teams to keep the staff agile and adaptable to the market requirements? What changes are needed for current training systems? The industry still needs employees with the appropriate competencies to crew the rigs and to ensure wellbore integrity to prevent well control incidents. Presentations on innovative training methods, talent attraction, recruitment and retention, as well as engaging with next-generation employees, are invited.
Authors are invited to submit proposals for presentations at the conference. For consideration, an abstract for each proposed paper must be submitted to IADC no later than 15 September 2019. Authors of papers selected will receive confirmation letters and guidelines by 15 October 2019. Please note that formal papers are encouraged but are NOT required for this conference.
Prior to paper proposal submission, management clearance must be obtained. Any issues concerning clearance should be outlined when the paper proposal is submitted. To be selected for presentations, papers must be of great interest to drilling contractors, operators, service companies, training institutions and equipment manufacturers.
