Southeast Asia Chapter’s May Meeting

On 20 May 2021, IADC’s Southeast Asia Chapter (SEAC) held a virtual meeting with over 50 people in attendance. The agenda include multiple guest respected speakers from around the industry:

  • Peter Secher – Managing Director of Sustainable Solutions in Nykredit
  • Amir B Harudin – Head of Upstream Sustainability Unit in PETRONAS
  • Afizza Anis Abd Rahman – Head, Wells HSE
  • Darrel Pelley – Director of Innovation in Transocean
  • Liya Khasanova – Senior Innovation Lead in Maersk Drilling

Additionally, the SEAC event had representatives from Transocean and Maersk, providing insight into the drilling contractor side of the industry. Along with the PETRONAS and NyKredit, this group shared with their insights with the virtual forum. Most of these discussions circled around what each company was doing with their ESG initiatives and plans.

All together, the group provided a meaningful dialogue to the ESG conversation. Their willingness to collaborate amongst the participants, showed great hope in cultivating an open atmosphere for opening the door for further collaboration afterwards.

In addition to presentations from PETRONAS and the Drilling Contractors, SEAC invited the Managing Director of NyKredit Sustainable Solutions, Peter Secher. FYI, Nykredit is a Danish consultancy firm which specializes in how societal trends in sustainability affect companies with respect to Green financing. Mr. Secher shared the global trends of ESG, focusing mostly on why companies are allocating meaningful capital to the ESG strategy and how it will impact our region and industry.

Over the last 12 months, ESG has stepped into the forefront of the O&G industry. It was interesting to learn more about why this is such a strategic priority for the financial success of our business’ and how some of our industry leaders are approaching the issue. Many enjoyed the thought-provoking presentations and the discussions that ensued.

Jacob Taylor, IADC SEAC Chairman, Maersk moderated the entire session and panelists whom led the discussions on the call. Several polls, a chat box and also a Q&A feature helped increase interaction during the event.
