Recap: IADC Deepwater Drilling & Human Performance Conference in Brazil

The IADC International Deepwater Drilling & Human Performance Conference & Exhibition was held 7-8 December 2022 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The conference covered a variety of topics, including ways to increase productivity while continuing to address reliability, safety, operational performance, and ESG requirements. Presentations and panels also discussed new ways of working, along with new technologies based on the understanding of human nature, which will assist in meeting industry challenges.

This conference provided a platform for collaboration between drilling contractors, chapter officers, and companies from the operator community. Conference participation across the upstream industry was excellent. Attendees discussed industry challenges, with a special focus on addressing these challenges locally in Brazil.

There were 148 attendees, including 19 students from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) that were sponsored by IADC. This was the first time that students have been invited to attend this particular conference. A goal for the IADC Brazil Chapter in 2023 is to continue to cultivate relationships with students from this university and others to help broaden the understanding of young professionals about the benefits of oil and gas. The Brazil Chapter has created a new position and will now have an official IADC Staff Liaison to UFRJ.
