IADC Lexicon Featured Term for January 2021

The IADC Lexicon is an oil and gas dictionary of upstream-related terms, which, unlike conventional glossaries, are official definitions drawn from legislation, regulation and regulatory guidance, standards (global, national and regional), IADC guidelines, and Well Control Institute. Terms often have multiple definitions from different sources.

This January’s Featured Term is:

Best Available and Safest TechnologySource: Oil and Gas and Sulphur Operations in the Outer Continental Shelf, 30 CFR 250 (2013).

Best available and safest technology (BAST) means the best available and safest technologies that the BSEE Director determines to be economically feasible wherever failure of equipment would have a significant effect on safety, health, or the environment.
