Subcommittees

Energy Efficiency Subcommittee

Co-Chair:
Konstantin Puskarskij, Copenhagen Energy Partners

Co-Chair:
Mike Party, Hess

Governance:
The ART Energy Efficiency Subcommittee aligns under IADC’s Advanced Rig Technology Committee, which reports up to the IADC Drilling Services Division. Project proposals shall be discussed at the committee level; if support is received among the general ART Committee, project proposals will be submitted to the IADC Division Vice Presidents (Offshore, North America Onshore, International Onshore, Drilling Services) for approval, in accordance with IADC’s project proposal process.

Mission Statement:
To capture, review and share best practices from drilling operations with regards to fuel efficiency and, as a consequence, emissions reduction.

Scope:
The ART Energy Efficiency Subcommittee will work to provide:

  • Guidance documents to members on best practices to measure and improve the fuel efficiency of drilling operations, and to understand existing and emerging technologies for emissions reduction.
  • A forum for sharing of ideas and collaboration around the energy efficiency of drilling operations.

Project Proposals:

Data, Controls and Sensors Subcommittee

Chair
Nathan Moralez, BP

Mission Statement

Provide information and guidelines to improve safety and reliability of the interfaces between human and machine, and between multiple control systems installed on offshore and onshore drilling facilities.

Goals

Control Motions

  • Phase I – Develop a critical safety interface list for a driller.
  • Phase II – Gather data for each supplier against current field populations.
  • Phase III – Based on findings, propose and publish an industry guideline for future safety critical applications.

Software Interface

  • Phase I – Identify and document the current supplier’s methods of integrating and communicating on rigs.
  • Phase II – Develop a matrix of issues and challenges drillers are facing.
  • Phase III – Publish guidelines to the industry advising on methods that have proven successful for integrating and communicating between systems.

Objectives

To eliminate the risk associated with variations in human machine interface for critical drilling controls. To provide a preferred method for integrating tools in a rig system with minimal impact to operations and a focused zero safety impact.
