Industry studies have shown that utilizing a systematic program of reporting, reviewing, and sharing with employees Near Miss/Hit events in the workplace will lead to improved safety. IADC has developed this report as part of its effort to catalyze the industry’s efforts to reduce incidents in the industry. This report can be used to increase awareness of potential hazards when employees understand that near miss/hit events could potentially be catastrophic and by studying them rig personnel can avoid or correct items that could lead to an actual event.
The IADC Near Miss/Hit Report is designed to improve rig safety by regularizing reporting of near miss/hit incidents. A "near miss," also called a "near hit," is an unplanned event that did not result in injury, illness or damage, but which had the potential to do so.
