The conference will be held 17 May at the Omni Houston Hotel Westside in Houston\, Texas. Conference Program Wednesday\, 16 May 9 am-2:30 pm Texas Ballroom 5-7IADC Well Control Committee Meeting A panel discussion of high importance to land drilling contractors will take place as part of the IADC Well Control Committee meeting. The Panel\, “Are We Meeting Land Drilling Well Control Challenges?\," will bring together operator and contractor representatives as well as consulting and training providers to review incidents\, address the issues\, and recommend actions for IADC to pursue. All IADC members are invited\, with land drilling contractors particularly encouraged to attend. 3-5 pm Texas Ballroom 5-7IADC Land Operations Forum (Drilling Contractors Only) Thursday\, 17 May 7 am RegistrationTexas Ballroom Foyer Exhibit ViewingTexas Ballroom & Foyer Coffee Service Sponsored by M.D. Cowan\, Inc.Texas Ballroom 7:15 am Texas Ballroom 5-7Speaker Briefing (Speakers\, Moderators and Session Chairs only) 8 am Texas Ballroom 5-7Introduction & Welcoming Remarks Joe Hurt\, Regional Vice President North America\, IADC Ronnie Witherspoon\, IADC Vice President\, Land Division; President\, Superior Well Services\, Inc.\, a Nabors Company Stephen Colville\, President & CEO\, IADC 8:30 amMarket Outlook – The Global PictureSession Chair: Ronnie Witherspoon\, IADC Vice President\, Land Division; President\, Superior Well Services\, Inc.\, a Nabors Company Marshall Adkins\, Managing Director\, Raymond James & Associates 9 amEnsuring a Competent Workforce for Onshore Drilling OperationsSession Chair: Ronnie Witherspoon\, IADC Vice President\, Land Division; President\, Superior Well Services\, Inc.\, a Nabors Company WellSite Competency Assessment: Steve Vorenkamp\, General Manager\, Training\, Wild Well ControlIndustry challenge is to respond to the assessment for kick identification with inexperienced crews. Fast drilling and horizontal conditions mask subtle changes in downhole dynamics that can be missed or misdiagnosed. Land drilling doesn’t always face the same requirements (regulatory)\, that offshore drilling does. We need to explore ways to increase wellsite awareness and good competency understanding to add to operational efficiency\, when formal training alone isn’t enough. Competency Assessment for Drilling Personnel: Teril Smith\, President\, ModuSpecGuaranteeing skilled and knowledgeable personnel goes beyond training. Organizations typically resolve such issues using blanket training programs; however\, training is not competency management\, it is one part of it. Plus training is particularly ineffective for developing skills that the individuals cannot practice (i.e. future roles). This presentation will outline how ModuSpec together with Human Engineering resolved such a problem for an offshore drilling client using technical evaluations together with psychometric testing\, observations and behaviorally anchored rating scales to assess the competence of their employee with the specific purpose of developing plans to support individual development. 10 am Texas Ballroom & FoyerCoffee Service & Exhibit Viewing Sponsored by M.D. Cowan\, Inc. 10:30 am Texas Ballroom 5-7Outlook of US Shale PlaysModerator: Jay Minmier\, President\, NOMAC Drilling CompanyIndustry leaders will discuss regulatory issues\, rig automation\, challenges\, opportunities\, and outlook for their respective companies. Stacy Shivers\, Drilling Engineering Manager\, Venado Oil & Gas Steve Carroll\, Drilling & Completion Manager\, ConocoPhillips Dave Bert\, Vice President-Drilling\, Eastern Division\, Chesapeake Energy 11:30 amGovernment Affairs UpdateSession Chair: Jay Minmier\, President\, NOMAC Drilling Company Brian T.
