  • WellSite Competency Assessment: Steve Vorenkamp, General Manager, Training, Wild Well Control
Industry challenge is to respond to the assessment for kick identification with inexperienced crews. Fast drilling and horizontal conditions mask subtle changes in downhole dynamics that can be missed or misdiagnosed. Land drilling doesn’t always face the same requirements (regulatory), that offshore drilling does. We need to explore ways to increase wellsite awareness and good competency understanding to add to operational efficiency, when formal training alone isn’t enough.
  • Competency Assessment for Drilling Personnel: Teril Smith, President, ModuSpec
Guaranteeing skilled and knowledgeable personnel goes beyond training. Organizations typically resolve such issues using blanket training programs; however, training is not competency management, it is one part of it. Plus training is particularly ineffective for developing skills that the individuals cannot practice (i.e. future roles). This presentation will outline how ModuSpec together with Human Engineering resolved such a problem for an offshore drilling client using technical evaluations together with psychometric testing, observations and behaviorally anchored rating scales to assess the competence of their employee with the specific purpose of developing plans to support individual development.
