IADC Exemplary Service Awards recognize individuals notable for outstanding contributions to the drilling industry and to IADC. Recipients have, in the course of their career, repeatedly demonstrated their commitment to improving the drilling industry and advancing its safety, training, or technology.

AM17_Dan-ScottDan Scott, Senior Technical Adviser, Baker Hughes, a GE company
Dan Scott serves as Sr. Technical Advisor for Baker Hughes. He has spent his career developing innovative products and processes for bits, and other downhole drilling tools. He holds 140 US Patents and is recognized as one of the most prolific inventors in the history of Baker Hughes, receiving the BHI D&E Inventor of the Year in 2010, 2011, & 2012, and recognized as the 2017 Inventor of the Year by the State Bar of Texas. Dan has published over 65 papers, and written book chapters on drill bits and drilling technology for several entities, including the IADC Drilling Manual.    He is a Distinguished Member of SPE, an ASM Fellow, recipient of the ASME Silver Patent award, and recipient of the Chairman’s Lifetime Technology Achievement from BHI. He serves on the MS&T Petroleum and Geology Advisory Boards, and was inducted into the Academy of Mines and Metallurgy at MS&T. He has served 26 consecutive years on the IADC/SPE Drilling Conference Program Committee, and currently serves on the IADC Drilling Engineers Committee Board. Dan has written several articles for Drilling Contractor Magazine. Dan currently serves as the Vice Chair of the 2017 SPE ATCE and will be the Program Chairman in 2018.

AM17_Jorge-LebrijaJorge Lebrija, Chairman, IADC Supply Chain Committee; Director, Global Sourcing, Ensco plc
Jorge Lebrija is the Director of Supply Chain, Global Sourcing for Ensco. Prior to joining Ensco, Jorge held multiple Supply Chain, Sourcing, and Procurement leadership positions within Baker Hughes, Transocean and Cemex. Jorge is currently the Chairman of the IADC Supply Chain Committee, and has participated in the committee since its creation in 2013. Additionally, he led the Manufacturing Record Book Subcommittee and by working together with the primary OEMs, classification societies, and offshore drillers, the group was able to standardize the format for the manufacturing book records and publish the first IADC Manufacturing Record Book Guidance document. Jorge graduated from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey with a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering and earned an Executive MBA from the University of Houston.

Andy Poosuthasee graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, with a minor in Spanish, from Purdue University. He then worked for Halliburton for eight years in a variety of roles, the most prominent of which was managing manufacturing plants/business units. He has spent the past six years with drilling contractors, with the last four years as the Director of Supply Chain for Vantage, reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for all procurement, logistics, customs, warehouse, and inventory activities globally. In addition, he has served two terms as Co-Chairman of the IADC Supply Chain Committee.

Rudimar Lorenzatto has been Executive Manager of Offshore Well Construction for Petrobras since 2013. He has 28 years of experience in several different areas with Petrobras, which includes Company Man for drilling and completion rigs, and various positions in the Drilling and Completion Group at Campos Basin- E&P. Rudimar holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, and a Petroleum Engineering degree from Petrobras University.

Akshay Sagar is the Vice President of WDI – the land rigs product line of Weatherford. He has extensive experience in the oil and gas industry, most recently working as the Global Business Manager for Directional Drilling & Drilling Engineering Solutions at Sperry Drilling (Halliburton). His work experience includes roles in operations, product development, marketing, and technology. He has a degree in engineering from IIT Delhi, and an MBA from RSM Erasmus in the Netherlands.

Gilles Bocabarteille joined Ocean Rig in August 2012 as Senior Vice President Technical and Engineering and has served as Chief Operating Officer since January 2013. During this period safety, operating efficiency and cost have been his primary focus, and all have been successfully improved. Mr. Bocabarteille received a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Ecole Superieure d’Arts et Metiers “ENSAM” in France in 1991.

Joey Husband, Vice President Operations, Nabors Drilling Solutions
Joey Husband is currently Vice President Operations, Nabors Drilling Solutions. Prior to this role, he served as Sr. Vice President of Nabors Drilling US Northern Region. Following graduation from Louisiana State University in 1983 with a BS in Chemical Engineering, Joey began his career with Schlumberger as a Field Engineer in California and Alaska. He later transferred to international operations and spent several years in various marketing, technical and operations management positions. After 20 years with Schlumberger he joined Parker Drilling as Director of Business Development, Contracts and Global Sales in Houston. He joined Nabors in 2011. Joey serves on the board of directors for IADC, and is Vice Chairman of the North America Onshore Advisory Panel. He is a founding member and director of Williston Energy Outreach, and is an active member of SPE.

Ryan Lance has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ConocoPhillips, since 2012. He is also Chairman of the Executive Committee for ConocoPhillips. Ryan is a petroleum engineer with 32 years of oil and natural gas industry experience in senior management and technical positions with ConocoPhillips, predecessor Phillips Petroleum, and various divisions of ARCO. His past ConocoPhillips executive assignments included responsibility for international exploration and production, regional responsibility at various times for Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North America, and responsibility for technology, major projects, downstream strategy, integration and specialty functions.

Many oil and gas companies are now embracing technologies like machine learning and artificial intelligence to optimize operations and to predict the likelihood of catastrophic or downtime-related events. Machine learning algorithms can look at asset operational data, pressures, mud properties, temperature, and any other data to understand exactly what is happening downhole at that specific well. Oil & gas operators can utilize these tools to learn from collected data, detect irregular patterns, and minimize safety issues in their own operations.

Mr. Bhattacharya is President of the Schlumberger Land Rigs product line, a position he has held since October 2015. In his current role Arindam leads the technology development and global operations portfolio for land drilling rigs. He holds a Master of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, UK, and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India.

To help oil and gas companies better prepare for this last cycle challenge, EY began a comprehensive effort in early 2017 to gain an in-depth understanding of how the US public views the energy industry. EY polled consumers of all ages, as well as oil and gas executives, to gauge how each group thinks about a number of key issues and identify where the industry must work to improve its reputation. The findings’ illuminates the need to change public perception to secure the future of the industry.

An overview of private equity inflows into the OFS sector over the last several years, and an outlook for returns going forward will be presented. Mr. Patterson graduated from Harvard College with a Bachelors of Science in History of International Relations and a commission in the United States Navy, awarded through NROTC. He served in the Navy for five years and, as a Navy SEAL, deployed twice to Iraq where he helped conduct counter-insurgency operations and train local security forces. He also deployed to Bahrain for a year where he liaised with counterparts in the Lebanese and Saudi Arabian Special Forces. Upon leaving active duty, Dave earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, spending a summer internship at Forum Energy Technologies, SCF Partner’s largest energy and manufacturing company. He joined SCF Partners in 2012, and serves as Vice President.

All recipients of the Contractor of the Year Award are nominated and selected by other drilling contractors who are IADC members.

In 2015, Will Hurd was elected to the 114th Congress and currently serves on the Committee of Oversight and Government Reform and chairs the Information Technology Subcommittee. He also sits on the Committee on Homeland Security and is the Vice Chair of the Border and Maritime Security Subcommittee. In 2017, Will was appointed by Speaker Ryan to serve on the House Permanent Select Intelligence Committee.
