A New Design Top Drive Designed To Go Further, Deeper & With Less Downtime: David Reid, VP, E&P Technology and Business, National Oilwell Varco

The industry has begun a soul-searching focus on top drive reliability as we consistently push the machines to the edge of their design capability. A new generation of top drive, the NOV TDX-1250 has arrived with more capacity and capability than we have seen in the past. Extended-reach drilling rigs looking to blow past today’s records have already bought into this new top drive, even though the machine’s significantly exceeds drilling rig capacity.

David Reid is Vice President, E&P Technology and Business at Houston-based National Oilwell Varco (NOV) and is responsible for developing corporate business interaction with strategic E&P companies. Previously he was Vice President of Products for NOV’s Rig Solutions Division and Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for Varco.

Great Leadership Fuels Performance and Growth - So, What is it? How Do You Achieve it? Dan Weinfurter, Chief Executive Officer, Capital H Group LLC

Moderator:
Scott Gordon, Regional Vice President, Unit Texas Drilling, LLC

Studies have shown that effective leadership is responsible for as much as 40% of an organization's performance. Yet, it's difficult to get leadership "right", which is why, worldwide, 30% to 40% of people are in the wrong roles, and 40% of people who are promoted into a new role fail in 18 months or less. The drilling industry, which has typically promoted from within, is particularly vulnerable – as determining who best to keep in technical specialist roles and who best to serve in management roles is a difficult, but critical decision.

Given the changes that the exploration industry is experiencing -- the competition for talent, the need for global management skills and the high costs of employee turnover-- now is the time to ask whether your leaders are capable of taking your organization into the future. And, if not, what actions do you need to take?
