The Instructor Qualifications Subcommittee of the IADC Well Control Committee has proposed the following requirements for accredited WellCAP instructor approval. Opinions and comments are sought from IADC members and other interested parties. The issue will be discussed at the next Well Control meeting scheduled for 13 March 2008. Proposed IADC Instructor Qualifications (Brought forth 17 November 2007 by the Instructor Qualifications Subcommittee of IADC Well Control Committee) Proposed qualifications can be found in the Well Control Committee section of the IADC web site or link above. The proposal includes suggested minimum requirements for initial instructor approval consisting of a current supervisory level well control certificate from a separate training provider, 60 hours of well control lecture at the level for which the applicant is requesting certification, and 20 hours of Well Control Simulator Instruction time monitored by a WellCAP approved instructor. The latter requirement would not apply at the WellCAP Introductory Level or for Coiled Tubing courses. Applicants for instructors would also need to possess minimum educational qualifications, field experience, or certified teaching or instructional experience. The proposal also includes provisions for currently approved instructors to follow to maintain approved WellCAP instructor status. Under the proposed requirements, a currently approved instructor would need to document a minimum of 60 hours lecture in the year prior to renewal approval, using the instructor's evaluation form signed off by the provider's administrator or responsible person; and attend a minimum of 40 classroom hours of a continuing education course to enhance technical or instructional skills. Attending a Well Control Conference or Well Control Roundtables would also be accepted as continued education. Other parts of the proposal would require a currently approved instructor to also satisfy at least one of the following: submit a well control-related paper for review by the WellCAP Roundtable or WellCAP Review Panel; make a presentation at an IADC or SPE Conference; or maintain a valid, current WellCAP certification from a separate provider Comments concerning the above proposal should be submitted in writing to IADC using one of the following methods:
