The IADC North Sea Chapter recently agreed to sponsor “OilCity”, an internet-based information facility, and we are inviting you to participate in this exciting new resource and ask that you inform your company pensioners through newsletters, magazines, etc.

OilCity, at www.oilcity.co.uk offers individuals who have worked in the North Sea Oil and Gas industry an opportunity to tell their stories – be these informative, amusing or anecdotal.   With so many having been involved in the NE oil industry over the past 50+ years, it was felt that many would have experiences and memories they would like to share.  Although we have seen a number of very good oil history initiatives in the past, OilCity aims to appeal to all people who have been involved in the industry and have something to say.   Photos and video clips can be posted if suitable.   All material will be surveyed for appropriateness before releasing it to the public website, and contributions will only be accepted from registered users.  The management company will not edit submissions which are subject-relevant (unless specifically engaged to do so); contributors will be entirely responsible for the accuracy, legality and copyright for the material posted.   Any material challenged by another party will be withdrawn.

An official ‘launch’ is planned during Offshore Europe week, but in the meantime the website is available to accept contributions.

However, it’s not only history they’re looking for.  The OilCity website is also designed to demonstrate that there are many issues and challenges to be faced and excellent opportunities for new entrants – in other words, history is still to be made!
